Local Mental Health Services

MENTAL HEALTH IS REAL HEALTH

Everyone deserves support—whether you are feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, or just need someone to talk to.

You do not have to go through it alone.

There are people and places nearby that want to help.

In this section, you will find information on local clinics in Orleans and Genesee Counties, as well as options for support if formal therapy is not accessible.

What if Counseling Feels Out of Reach?

Not everyone has access to therapy through their family, and that is okay.

Whether it is a financial issue, a privacy concern, or something else—there are still ways to get support.

School Counselors or Social Workers
Most middle and high schools in New York State have a counselor or social worker you can talk to during the school day. They are trained to help with emotions, stress, relationships, and more—and what you share is usually kept private.

Community Clinics
Some clinics offer free or sliding-scale therapy based on income. In New York, minors may be able to access mental health services without parental consent, depending on the situation. Ask a school counselor or clinic staff member to help you understand your options.

Hotlines and Text Lines
These are free, confidential, and available 24/7:

  • Text "HELLO" to 741741 (Crisis Text Line)

  • Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
You can use these just to talk—or to get help finding a local provider.

Talk to a Trusted Adult
If it is hard to talk to your family, a teacher, coach, school nurse, mentor, or older sibling may be able to help. You deserve support, and you do not have to figure everything out alone.
